Murph's "Butterguts" Burgers & Fries

Owner Murphy has a culinary degree from Le Corde Blu University in Portland, Oregon. He has worked several upscale restaurants, and found quickly it wasn’t for him. So…he started working in a food truck / sandwich shop, and while working, he often created his own specials.

This when the Murph Burger was created … he posted it on FB and the response was CRAZY!! People were suggesting that he should move back to South Dakota and sell that burger - so he did! The Murph burger is what started all this and continues to be the #1 seller.

He built his truck with family and friends and sold his first burger the end of July 2021 - we were all surprised how quickly he would sell out at the first few events. His Murph burger was an immediate SUCCESS and the phone was starting ring with requests for his food truck (word has traveled fast).

When winter hit, he decided to accept an offer to run the kitchen in Fernson's tap house. He opened there the day after Thanksgiving 2021. However, he knew he needed a prep kitchen where he could load his truck and keep up with requests and the response from his customers. A friend who works in real estate had a place to show him, and at first glance, we all thought it would be a great opportunity to start a restaurant.

Nine days after signing the lease, he opened a restaurant – not a prep kitchen!

So...what is “Butterguts”?

Well, true story, this is the name of his imaginary restaurant starting at age 4. 

It took him 30 years to make his dream come true.

Today, Murph's Butterguts is serving up the famous Murph Burger in both the brick & mortar location, year-round, as well as the food truck from May - Sept/Oct. Stop by to see for yourself why the locals love Butterguts!
