Our History

Nelson & Nelson CPA's is more than just an accounting firm. It is a legacy of four generations of dedicated and professional CPA's who have served the Midwest with integrity and personal service since 1923. It is the oldest homegrown CPA firm in South Dakota, based in Sioux Falls, SD.

The firm was founded by James Nelson, who passed on his values and expertise to his son Wes, who joined him in 1957 after serving in the Korean War. Wes graduated from the University of South Dakota (USD) and became a respected leader in the accounting industry. His son Chuck followed in his footsteps and joined the firm in 1983, also graduating from USD. Chuck brought new insights and innovations to the firm, while maintaining its high standards and reputation. His daughter Jillian is the latest addition to the Nelson family of CPA's. She joined the firm in 2013, after earning her Bachelor from USD and her Master’s in Business from the University of Sioux Falls (USF). She became a Certified Public Accountant in 2018, continuing the tradition of excellence that her great-grandfather started more than 100 years ago.
